3 Trains Involved in Indiana Accident
Last Friday afternoon, a freight train rear-ended another sending debris flying and hitting a third train. Firefighters immediately came to the scene to put out the flames that had started from the derailed cars. Two crewmembers of the train that caused the accident suffered injuries, but none of them critical. Hazardous material teams also arrived on the scene just as a precaution, because the freight trains carried some cars with hazardous materials.
The train that was stopped on the railway was two engines and 77 cars, and why it was stopped is being investigated. The train that hit the stopped train was two engines and 60 cars. The debris from the crash flew onto the tracks, causing a third train, 48-cars-long, to derail. It is not yet known how fast either of the moving trains was going. About 50 homes in the surrounding area were also evacuated, just as a precaution. The total number of derailed cars is not yet known.
